No, actually my alliance crumbled when I left an idiot in charge while I was on vacation. Although I joined a much larger alliance, and haven't joined the government, because of my time constraints. I do pretty well though, I have made it into the top 1000 people in the game.

Ouch - sorry to hear that Don - a painful reminder of how fragile alliances can really be. :(

Congrats on making it into the top 1000, though! That's top 1000 of the whole game, not one particular server/world, right?

That's pretty impressive! Well... assuming there aren't only 1,000 players LOL. Kidding aside, what kind of game is it? Browser based like CN or SD, or is it cliented, or some weird combo?

    Quick related question -

My son just finished and really enjoyed the campaign on Modern Warfare 2 (we're sort of playing in reverse, as I recently picked it up for him because he liked Black Ops so much). Should I pick up Modern Warfare 1 so that he can go through the campaign in that as well? (I'd either do a cheap used copy or rent it, since the campaign would presumably be pretty short.)

I understand that there's some continuity of characters and overall plot between MW1 and MW2, so I'm guessing he might like to play through and see what happens, even if the graphics aren't as good.

    Opinions?

It depends on what kind of gamer he is. If he's a series/collecting fan, as in, "OMG Ocarina of Time was awesome, now I want to play all the Legend of Zelda games" then yeah. For me personally, if I like a game I'll usually try out its sequels, and if I like those, I might try the prequels.... it all depends :/

  6. I've played both. MW2 first then MW1. The campaign was enjoyable and had a pretty good story(MW2's graphics is what made it seem like a better game) Be forewarned that the AI in MW1 can sometimes be brutal even on normal difficulty. I would recommend playing it as it does show you why a couple of things happen in MW2(and why General Shepherd is such a douche)
Best bet is to just find a used copy.

Hey guys i attend E3 every single year. What i can tell you is that right now the game to be watching for is BattleField 3. why because it is going to revolutionize FPS game play. I have stopped following Activision and its recycled call of duty franchise. MW3 looked just like MW2 with a new story line and re skinned from black ops. Not much to go on there any more. As a Tester and mod for World Of Tanks was fun to meet with the devs from russia. I suggest any one that likes WWII style Tanks, Tank Busters, and Artillery you check out the game. Its free to play and has its advantages. see my screen shots for reference as i love the game play.

But as an avid PC gamer and advocate against game companies for continually fucking over the PC community who built their reputations, and to those that play consoles, sorry i own them all and never use them, shit the xbox 360 i have is only 1 yr old and never taken out of the damn box. the PS3 eh about the same. So in closing hope if you do come play World of tanks you can add me as a in game friend " 4nubi5 " and come chill with my team on our ventrilo just visit us at www.texasgaming.org we are multi gaming organization.

You can go visit the site www.worldoftanks.com and see all of the tech trees. I hope to see some of you there. Oh btw this is a PC only game currently, they were talking at E3 about expanding to the consoles soon.

My son and I had a blast last summer playing through Earth Defense Force 2017 and had been looking forward to EDF: Insect Armageddon all year.

While it has its problems, we really enjoy it for the couch co-op. If there's one thing that really hurts it for me, though, it's that while both games require an incredible amount of grinding, EDF:IA has real levels rather than a small trickle of continuous upgrades. I find it really tough to motivate myself to grind that much when there's almost nothing tangible to show for it. (There are eight ranks, and at the halfway mark, you start needing a metric s**t-ton of xp to gain a rank, and a ton of cash to buy the new weapons you can access at that rank.)

I've never used hamachi. I've just been playing single player so far. I'd be willing to try it out. ;D

    Hamachi!?

My son was begging me to figure out Hamachi for multiplayer Minecraft. I tried to explain that I wasn't entirely comfortable setting up a VPN just for Minecraft, and wasn't sure what (if any) security issues that might pose.

Eventually I just coughed up the cash (and time) to pay for a year of a dedicated minecraft server just for him and his friends (a teeny tiny one because I'm cheap!)

I don't like Hamachi, you can't close it. And when it's on, which it always is, because even when off it runs in the background, it actually drains bandwidth. So I had to manually disable its access.

    Not a fan of hamachi.

But just got in on the Star Wars The Old Republic Beta, as they are in between builds right now. Kinda sad it takes them 18 days to unload and load a new version of the game for testing. But the graphics and game play are awesome.

I have it set up so I only run the processes that I absolutely need, when I need them, so I don't worry about "background" processes, because they're shut off when I'm not enabling them ^_^

Bought Bastion on XBLA, played the tutorial areas and didn't love it enough to keep playing.

Played and finished War of Eustrath HD on ipad (recommended!) last month. This month on ipad I'm working on Hunters HD - about 90% done, recommend it but not as highly.

Bought craptons of stuff in the Steam Summer Sale, GOG Summer Hidden Gems Sale, Humble Indie Bundle, etc but haven't gotten around to playing any of it.

Have Lego Pirates of the Caribbean and Dungeon Siege III for 360 rented from Gamefly and waiting for me to motivate enough to play. I'm not thrilled about either but rented them for couch co-op with my son, who of course has now become obsessed by Oblivion so he's not into playing anything with me :(
