I wanna start a Minecraft village.
We need a server! Tbh, I kinda wanna get a TF2 Server and a Minecraft server going on the Menotah Paypal account, that way we can do ingame ads and ask for donations from players. thoughts?
If we did that, then we could start a TF2 Clan, Minecraft Clan and hopefully bring others here. And even if they didn't play CN, they'd still post and if we could build a community then maybe CN players would be more active, and they'd start doing CN. The only downfall is money.
Minecraft is a bit ridiculous in terms of servers.
Tier: Cost: Space: Recommended Players(usually less):

Tier 1$7.99/Monthly 256 MB1-4*

Tier 2$14.99/Monthly 512 MB1-8*

Tier 3 $23.99/Monthly768 MB1-12*

Tier 4$14.99/first month then $29.99/Monthly 1 GB1-16*

Tier 5$22.49/first month then $44.99/Monthly 2 GB1-32*

Tier 6$32.50/first month then $64.99/Monthly 3 GB1-46*

Whereas, Team Fortress 2 has server space for $1.24 a player a month.
Meaning: 12 players - $12.45
16 - $19.95
23 - $28.70
24 - $29.95
32 - $29.95
So i think in any situation, Minecraft costs way to much to run a functioning Server. So my advice would be to do a Public TF2 server but how could we make money is the question. We'd probably need to set up premium, ads and other revenue generating things. So all in all, I'm not sure if a profit is guaranteed.
yeah - minecraft servers are not cheap, even if you go for the low-low-end as I did.
I think I'm paying around $70 for a one-year MC server with barely enough ram to support the 3 to 4 players my son is ever likely to have on at once.
Yeah, so I think we could maybe do a TF2 server but not a minecraft. If we find ourselves making money, possible, we could get a small minecraft for ourselves. Otherwise, someone can host the Minecraft on their computer, (i've been trying to get mine working for a while).
BTW - this is the MC server host I use for my son.
Ah, those prices are only for yearly, tricky tricky tricky.
Quoted so people can see.
indeed - I'm really not sure why server space for MC is so much more expensive than TF2.
And BTW - if we are gonna keep replying to each other within 2 minutes, why aren't you just on IRC?
It's mostly because of the data storage, I've been told.
That seems very odd. Are we talking hard drive storage or RAM?
The world on my son's server is still under 50 mb with all the player files, etc packed into the backup.
On your side or on the server's side?
true - all I know is how big the world file is if I download a copy of it from the server. Once it's opened during play, idk how much additional space is required.
Basically the server stores all the data from each player. Let's assume you the 3 of you each have 50mb worth of player files. That's 150 mb, then factor in the entire world, the game code, the monsters, the time, the items, the air and the server maintenance files.
Easiest is a hamachi server with somebody who has a very powerful computer laying around. MC doesn't eat up that much bandwidth I've found, it's the computer power that you need to get the server running smoothly. If you have an extra computer that you setup as a server, that can actually work better than some of those pay servers. I have a friend who did that quite successfully.
Fireblade I need you on mIRC immediately.
I was trying to get on anyway, but it keeps giving me that 'Exit' rather than 'Continue' button.
Keep trying, I've had that before. It usually goes away.
